juuna vsUmami.

Umami is open-source web analytics done cleanly: genuinely lightweight, free to self-host, pleasant to read, and a deserved default suggestion whenever someone asks for a simple analytics tool they can run themselves.

juuna sits one decision away: what Umami asks you to run, juuna runs for you, and the product reaches further. A dedicated managed instance per customer, with session replay, heatmaps and Web Vitals beyond the traffic and funnel numbers.

Their case

Choose Umami if…

  • Free and open source is the brief. Self-hosted Umami costs a server and nothing else, and the code (MIT) is yours to read.
  • You are glad to run it: a database to keep, upgrades to apply, backups to own. For plenty of developers that is an evening, not a burden.
  • Web analytics is the whole job: pageviews, referrers, campaigns and events on a dashboard that stays out of the way.
  • You want to start on their cloud and keep the option of moving to your own server later.

Ours

Choose juuna if…

  • You want the own-server model without becoming the operator. A juuna instance is provisioned, patched and backed up for you, and it is still hardware nobody else shares.
  • You want to watch the sessions behind the counts: masked replay and click, scroll and attention heatmaps on every plan.
  • You want performance in the same dashboard: Core Web Vitals p75s per page, from real visits.
  • You want one flat bill and no event math: $29 / $79 / $199 per month, every feature on every plan.

The real difference

Umami’s appeal is honest: the software is free, the code is public, it stays light, and it does web analytics without ceremony. The cost is a role. Self-hosting makes someone the operator, with a database to back up, upgrades to apply and uptime to own; the cloud removes that and meters by events instead.

juuna is for teams who want the self-hosted feeling as a service: a dedicated instance with its own Postgres, operated for you, carrying replay, heatmaps and vitals as well as the counting. Put simply, Umami spends your time to save you money; juuna spends your money to save you time.

Asked and answered

Is Umami free?
Self-hosted, yes, genuinely: the software costs nothing and the server, database, upgrades and backups are yours to provide. Umami also runs a paid cloud, priced by monthly events, for people who would rather not. The true cost of the free path is the operating.
Can I self-host juuna the way I self-host Umami?
No. juuna is a managed dedicated instance: the single-tenant isolation self-hosters want, with Muziris running the server, the Postgres and the upgrades. If running it yourself is the point, Umami is the better answer.
What does juuna add over Umami?
Mostly the session layer and the service. juuna bundles masked session replay, click, scroll and attention heatmaps and Core Web Vitals with its traffic and funnel analytics, and operates a dedicated server for every customer. Umami’s centre of gravity is lightweight web analytics; the running of it is yours, or its cloud’s.
