Alternatives toMixpanel.

For a small team, the strongest Mixpanel alternatives are PostHog if you want a usage-priced everything-platform, Amplitude if you want the enterprise peer, and juuna if you want flat-priced analytics with session replay on a server of your own.

One disclosure before the ranking: juuna is ours, and the list is short because the honest version is. At this end of the market, three tools cover the real choices, and the closing section argues Mixpanel’s own case.

01

juuna

Ours · disclosed

juuna answers the questions small teams actually bring to product analytics, which funnel step loses people, who comes back, what a user did before writing in, with twelve fixed views instead of a report builder. One tag plus an identify call gets most products a working dashboard on day one, session replay, heatmaps and Core Web Vitals ride along, and each customer runs on a dedicated instance with its own Postgres.

Pick it if
You want product analytics the whole team reads without training, at a price that never moves, on a server nobody else touches.
Pricing model
Flat: $29 / $79 / $199 per month, everything included.
The catch
There is no report builder: when your questions outgrow the twelve views, you have outgrown juuna. No experiments, no feature flags, and not open source.

02

PostHog

PostHog gives a small team the most product for the least commitment: Mixpanel-class analysis with a real query surface, plus session replay, feature flags, experiments and surveys, usage-priced with a free tier that many small products never leave. Open source at the core.

Pick it if
You want deep analysis plus flags and experiments in one place, and the team will climb the curve.
Pricing model
Usage-based per product, with a free tier.
The catch
Breadth is the trade: a much larger product to hold in your head, and usage-based bills that want watching as volume grows.
juuna vs PostHog

03

Amplitude

Amplitude is Mixpanel’s closest peer: deep behavioural analytics, mature cohorting and the governance features of a tool built for organisations where analytics is somebody’s whole job. Moving between the two is a lateral step, made over pricing, ergonomics or a single feature rather than category.

Pick it if
You are choosing between the two incumbents and want the one your data-minded people prefer.
Pricing model
A free starter tier, then usage-based plans and enterprise contracts.
The catch
Sized for organisations: the learning curve and the sales motion both assume analytics is a role, not a sideline. A small team can drown in it.

A straight answer

When is Mixpanel itself the right answer?

More often than a vendor’s alternatives page tends to admit. Mixpanel helped invent this category and remains excellent at it: fast ad-hoc analysis, flexible cohorts, a mature ecosystem, and a free tier that genuinely covers small products. If your team lives in the reports, will invest in a clean event schema, and wants analysis that deepens as the product grows, Mixpanel is a strong default, and leaving it would cost you real capability.

The honest reasons to switch are specific: you want replay and heatmaps in the same tool, a bill that stops moving, data on infrastructure nobody shares, or fewer knobs than a report builder carries. Pick by your reason, not by list position.

Asked and answered

What is the cheapest Mixpanel alternative?
It depends on which kind of cheap. At small volume, PostHog’s free tier can cost nothing at all. juuna is the cheapest predictable answer: one flat monthly figure whatever your event volume does. Metered free tiers are the cheapest option until the month something works.
Do these tools need an event schema before they are useful?
Mixpanel and Amplitude largely do: their power assumes named, planned events. PostHog autocaptures events; juuna records pageviews, sessions, referrers and devices on its own, so either way the first dashboards exist before the schema conversation happens. A deliberate schema still pays off everywhere; automatic capture just decides whether it blocks day one.
Can I bring my Mixpanel history with me?
Mixpanel’s data can be exported through its APIs; what each tool here imports varies and changes, so check before you plan on it. juuna does not import Mixpanel history: the tag starts collecting the day it goes in, and teams keep both running through the overlap.
Is Mixpanel too complex for a small team?
No, and this page does not claim it. Complexity is a budget you spend on capability, and plenty of small teams spend it happily. The question is whether anyone on the team wants to own the tool. If the answer is no, a smaller surface will get read more often than a report builder will.

Decide with your own data.

Flat plans, everything included. Checkout to live dashboard usually takes about ten minutes.
